The last stop on our holidays around the world tour is in South Africa, with Andile Sibandas, another PCC tennis player.
He shares that his country is called the “rainbow nation”; it is a country with a variety of cultures and 11 official languages. He is from
the Zulu tribe.
Speaking about Christmas holiday traditions, Andile says the family goes to church, and then invites family over. Meat is cooked on a braai- called braaing the meat - similar to the U.S. custom of barbecuing meat on a grill.
Another usual food is a milk tart that he describes similar to pie. Then he spoke about a snack food, similar to beef jerky. A funny moment occurred when he said it is like beef jerky, but it tastes nice! (Not like he found beef jerky to be, apparently!)
Andi is very happy about being part of the new PCC tennis team. When asked if he is a good tennis player, he charmingly said he “didn’t like to brag, but yeah, I’m pretty decent.”
This concludes our holiday around the world tour, graciously hosted by international students attending Pratt’s own Pratt Community College.
Thanks for traveling along! May your holidays be a time of fun and gathering together!
